Happy Easter Monochrome!

Sunday, 31 March 2013

Happy Easter!! I hope you've all had a great day. I've been really busy with uni work this week and am so happy to have handed in my dissertation on Thursday! Finally got a bit of breathing space...
Today's outfit of the day is a relaxed casual Sunday look with a dash of monochrome and a sport touch with the trainers and beanie.

What do you think about wedged trainers? I wasn't too sure but I don't think these stand out too much so they're wearable.
Enjoy the rest of Easter!

Dad's Birthday

Tuesday, 26 March 2013

Last Friday was my Dad's 50th birthday!! What an oldie! (I'm sure he'd appreciate my honesty here). Anyway, it was naturally FREEZING cold and POURING with rain but I refused to succumb to the horrible weather and as it was officially Spring I dressed for Spring (and yes I was cold for a little while).  Again, apologies for the poor photo quality! We went for a lovely meal and had a little too much to drink but it was worth it.

I would post a photo of the birthday boy but I think I'd be told off!

Sunday, 24 March 2013

It's still been really cold here lately which is a shame because I've been dying to get out all my summer clothes! So this is today's outfit post. Sorry about the picture quality, iphone was all I had to hand!

Hurry up Spring!!

Sunday, 17 March 2013

I'm sure I'm not the only one begging Spring to arrive! Winter can be a cruel mistress especially on your skin from wearing tights, jeans and leggings not to mention drying the hell out of it. I thought today I'd share some of my winter skin routine which I tend to stick by throughout the colder months but it's good to start now before leg-baring season begins.

Have you ever  noticed that your skin tends to look generally 'bleugh' in the winter? By the time March comes around I find skin can be blotchy, spotty and generally not great. In order to stop this happening I've employed a simple routine of exfoliate and moisturise. It's so simple but works miracles and means it doesn't take as long to get ready for summer!

For my face I use a gentle exfoliator. My face doesn't tend to fair too badly in the cold so I use the gentle 'Clean&Clear' daily wash. It's inexpensive and works for my needs. If you tend to get black-heads or particularly blotchy skin there are other products out there worth investing a little more money in but for me, this works.

I recently ran out of my usual moisturiser so went out and bought the new Garnier Moisture Match to see what it was like. I got the blue 'light softening cream' one (they come in a variety depending on your needs). I find it a little heavier than my usual one but it smells lovely and absorbs quickly.

Finally these are the following products I use for body. Soap and glory are one of my favourite high street brands and they work really well. There scrub smells delicious and works miracles. I finish by moisturising with the Body Shop Body Butter (raspberry is my favourite but I'm not sure if they still do it!)which, for the price, is unbeatable.

White as Snow

Wednesday, 13 March 2013

Despite the snow we had this week I'm still desperately waiting for Spring to get here! Inspired by Alexander Wang and Roberto Cavalli for SS/13 I am IN LOVE with the 'all white' esemble. Unfortunately it is waaaaaaaaay to cold to even consider stepping foot outside my front door wearing anything that doesn't have fur, wool or a substantial number of layers on it.
So I've simply combined a few of my Spring wish-list items that i've come accross and will hopefully be new additions to my wardrobe in time for the warmer weather.
Dress: Topshop
Blazer: Zara
Blouse: River Island
Skirt: Zara
Shoes: Zara
Bracelet: Michael Kors

I think white can be worn with anything in the summer and is really refreshing. I love to add a splash of colour with white so I'm going to attempt to find some bright coral necklaces to make it interesting.
What do you think? I am extremely fond of the dress...

Happy Mother's Day

Sunday, 10 March 2013

First thing's first, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! How have you celebrated today? I've made my mum cakes and made copious amounts of tea.
Today was FREEZING! I kid you not, these photos were taken between bouts of shivering but I did my best to have some up for today.

I always get moaned at for wearing soley black and white so I went out and bought this skirt because it was the brightest boldest thing I could find (amongst this monochrome trend!). I love wearing it with blouses or a plain white t-shirt and it goes with more than you would think!

These are my absolute favourite boots ever! They are so warm and comfortable - I wear with everything.

A Rainy Day

Friday, 8 March 2013

The weather today has been awful! It's been drizzling all day - not the best day to take photos! So I'm afraid I had to make do with only a couple of shots before running inside to take cover (apologies for the iphone shots, won't be in the future!).

It's quite chilly so I put my trustee Topshop cardigan on because it has to be one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I own - I was being brave putting shorts on in the first place!

Cardigan: Topshop, Blouse: Topshop, Shorts: Urban Outfitters, Boots: Topshop
(as you will discover I have a distinct love for Topshop and I'm desperately trying to kick the habbit)

P.s. can't wait to get to get my new camera in a few weeks!

Nails Nails Nails

Sunday, 3 March 2013

So I didn't want to do two posts in a row for beauty but seeing as I can't do any outfit posts till next weekend I'll live with it for now.
I thought I'd share with you my new Essie purchase and a couple of my other favourite nail varnishes that I wear ALL THE TIME.
On Thursday I lost my Essie virginity, took the plunge, and invested in 'Tart Deco'. The brushes are a slightly different shape to the ones i'm used to using because they're a little flatter which actually makes it a lot easier to apply. They had some gorgeous colours which I can't wait to buy for Spring, I particularly like some of the green pastels (a good excuse to buy some mint coloured clothes). I think 'Mojito Madness' or 'Mint Candy Apples' might be next on the list.
Tart Deco is a great colour and i'm after matching jewellery to wear with it! It's quite bright and almost close to neon when two coats have been applied (the pictures don't do it justice!). So far minimal chips and I love the shine a good top coat gives it. So if you're wary of trying different brands of polish, i'd recommend you give Essie a try.

My favourite nail varnishes have to be the Le Vernis colours by Chanel. I'm a big fan and my absolutely favourites I cannot live without are 'Quartz' and ' Blue Boy'. Unfortunately I got told that Quartz was being discontinued so if you're a lover like me then stock up! I particularly like 'Peridot' as an evening version of Quartz because it has hints of green and gold (i'll do a post next week on that one because I need to steal mum's one!) and eventually i'll have to invest in my own Peridot. Although the colours for chanel nail varnish are absolutely fantastic make sure you put on two-three coats because they can seem quite fluidy (if that makes sense) and a top coat is a must because they are prone to chipping if you're not careful.
